Alan Wood Knives

DAMASTEEL: is the patterned damascene blade steel using the solid state welding procedure called “Hot Isostatic Pressing” but using layers of RWL-34 with alternate layers of PMC-27 (a powder metallurgy version of 12c27) that produces a billet which can be manipulated to produce various patterns. Aside from the beauty and uniqueness this steel gives to a blade Alan has these blades in the hands of deer controllers who deal with hundreds of deer a year and the reports of superb performance are commonplace. As the RWL-34 or bright steel in the finished blade is at RC-62 and the darker PMC-27 is at RC-58 sharpening is a touch easier than straight RWL-34. Unlike black-smithed Damascus performance can be guaranteed. Expensive and time consuming to work.
